Narragunnawali: Reconciliation in Schools and Early Learning

Becoming mindful - Tuesday, 19th March 

Spend a day learning the techniques and benefits of mindfulness for both yourself and the children you work with in this full day event.

Mindfulness for you: Practicing mindfulness at work has proven to decrease employee absenteeism, boost creativity and innovation, team building and leadership development, reduce stress and increase workplace performance and productivity. Find out how thinking and emotions affect your wellbeing and relationships, ways to skilfully respond to stressful situations and discover how to carry out simple mindfulness practices and techniques.

Mindfulness with children:                         
This section of the day will provide underpinning knowledge about mindfulness practice to encourage reflection and thought about our current learning environments and their impact on children. Concepts to be introduced include mindfulness practice, tuning in to children, slowing down and current research on mindfulness.

Leadership Masterclasses for Directors in 2019 - with Dr Kaye Colmer

In this special masterclass series, Gowrie SA CEO, Dr Kaye Colmer will share the learning from her recent doctoral studies in early childhood leadership. 

The following topics will be covered arranged into 3 key areas:

Area 1: Principles for leadership practice in early childhood centres 

  • Understanding contextual leadership
  • Developing organisational systems
  • Understanding the influential nature of leadership
  • Fostering educators’ wellbeing and developing a supportive emotional climate
  • Understanding leadership styles – contextual and inclusive leadership practices
  • Leadership as relational work 
  • Nurturing multiple leaders 

Area 2: Professional development and professional learning

  • Director as the pedagogical leader  
  • Building professional learning environment that engage staff Facilitating professional dialogue and critical thinking 
  • Building collegial value and respect
  • Distributed leadership – what it is; what do team leaders need?

Area 3: Aligning your leadership efforts for building strong culture


The above topics will be organised into 10 sessions with flexibility based on group interest.

Mentoring Early Childhood Teachers to full registration 

Gowrie SA have teamed with CCCSA and the Teachers Registration Board in an exciting mentoring project, to support small groups of ECTs and their centre Director, through the process of transitioning to full teachers registration.

Over 8 sessions, participants will:

  • Explore the Director’s role in supporting a provisionally registered teacher to transition to full registration
  • Unpack the AITSL Standards to understand them in an education and care setting
  • Be supported in creating a portfolio of evidence
  • Develop critical reflection skills
  • Network with other ECTs
  • Share and understand the requirements of documentation.

Join Sally Chance and Heather Frahn for a playful introduction to two of the most accessible and articulate of the hundred languages of children - dance and music.

With plenty of action, underpinning theory as well as practical advice from two highly experienced practitioners, the day will be immersive and inspiring, covering the age span from baby room to Kindy.
