Yalaka warra – Today’s Word (Kaurna Language) - Educator Upskilling

Program description

This program is for those working on Kaurna Country, led by a Kaurna Elder from Deadly Mob and a Gowrie SA facilitator.

Yalaka warra is a language program to share Kaurna language and protocols.

The program will focus on the following:

  • Protocols for Kaurna language
  • Acknowledgment of Country
  • Ways to meet and greet others
  • Learning the colours and body parts
  • Learning the special occasions in Kaurna

The program will be shared in a narrative style and will include opportunities for Q&A, role play, practice, homework, and handouts. Sharing over multiple sessions and engaging in role play provides the opportunity for development of confidence and practice.

Please note: Gowrie SA is moving forward in our journey in Reconciliation. Our Aboriginal and Zenadth Kes Reference Group have made a mutual decision to utilise Kaurna Warrapiipa as our language governance. We have commenced a process of transition as of 15th June 2026. Gowrie SA apologises for any confusion if there are any discrepancies during the transition process.
